Environmental protection measures in the production process of brass lock cylinders

05 Dec Industry News

1. Selection of green materials
The main components of brass lock cylinders are copper and zinc. Copper itself is a recyclable metal with a high recycling value. With the increasingly stringent environmental regulations, more and more brass lock cylinder manufacturers give priority to copper and zinc alloys that meet environmental standards when selecting raw materials. Minimize the use of environmentally harmful materials such as lead, cadmium and other toxic substances during the production process. Ensure safety and environmental protection during the production process through the ratio of precision alloys.

Many manufacturers use lead-free brass, which not only improves the environmental protection of the product, but also reduces the generation of hazardous waste during the production process. Lead-free brass alloy materials not only help protect the health of workers, but also reduce environmental pollution. The use of more environmentally friendly nickel-free or low-nickel alloys avoids the pollution of water and soil caused by the use of nickel.

2. Energy-saving and emission-reduction production process
The production of brass lock cylinders involves multiple links such as casting, processing, and surface treatment. In order to reduce energy consumption, many manufacturers have taken energy-saving measures during the production process. For example:

Use high-efficiency electric furnaces or induction heating equipment: Such equipment can heat metal faster and more evenly, reducing energy waste. Compared with traditional gas furnaces, electric furnaces and induction heaters are more efficient in the heating process and have more precise temperature control, thereby reducing excessive energy consumption.

Optimize process parameters: Through advanced production processes and automation technology, the energy demand of each production link can be accurately controlled to avoid unnecessary energy waste. For example, temperature control in the casting process and optimization of cutting parameters in processing can effectively save energy.

Heat recovery system: Some brass lock cylinder manufacturers have introduced heat recovery systems to recycle waste heat generated during the production process. For example, the waste gas generated during production can be recovered and reused through heat exchange devices, or used as workshop heating, further improving energy efficiency.

3. Waste gas treatment and emission control
The waste gas generated during the production of brass lock cylinders includes smoke generated during casting, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that may be released during processing, and solvents used during coating. If these waste gases are not controlled, they will seriously pollute air quality. To this end, many manufacturers have taken the following environmental protection measures:

Waste gas purification equipment: Use efficient waste gas purification equipment, such as electrostatic precipitators, activated carbon adsorption devices and catalytic oxidation equipment, which can effectively remove harmful substances generated during the production process and reduce emissions. For toxic gases, activated carbon or chemical adsorbents are usually used for treatment to ensure that the waste gas meets the emission standards.

Low volatility solvents: When performing surface treatment (such as electroplating, spraying, etc.), low volatility solvents are used instead of traditional high volatility organic solvents to reduce the emission of harmful gases. In order to further reduce VOC emissions, some manufacturers also use water-based paints instead of traditional solvent-based paints.

Local exhaust system: In the precision machining and surface treatment links, some manufacturers use local exhaust systems to directly guide the exhaust gas from the pollution source to the exhaust gas treatment equipment, reducing the spread of harmful gases from the source.

4. Wastewater treatment and recycling
In the production process of brass lock cylinders, especially in surface treatment, cleaning and other processes, water-soluble chemicals may be used, and these wastewaters may contain heavy metal ions or harmful chemicals. Therefore, it is crucial to treat wastewater reasonably and avoid polluting water sources.

Wastewater pretreatment: Pre-treat wastewater through physical, chemical and other methods, such as using sedimentation tanks to remove solid particles in wastewater, or using chemical precipitation to remove metal ions in wastewater. Pretreatment can greatly reduce pollutants in wastewater.

Wastewater recycling: Many brass lock core manufacturers have established wastewater reuse systems to reuse wastewater used in the production process after treatment, reducing dependence on fresh water sources and reducing the company's water consumption.

Heavy metal removal: When it comes to heavy metal wastewater (such as copper ions, zinc ions, etc.), companies usually use ion exchange, reverse osmosis or electrolysis to ensure that harmful substances in wastewater are removed to meet environmental emission standards.

5. Solid waste treatment and resource recovery
During the production process, brass lock core manufacturers will generate a certain amount of solid waste, including metal chips, waste, discarded surface coatings, polishing dust, etc. The treatment of these solid wastes can not only reduce environmental pollution, but also recycle valuable resources.

Metal chip recycling: A large amount of metal chips will be generated during the processing of brass lock cores. These metal chips have a high recycling value and are usually collected through a recycling system and sent to a professional recycling plant for remelting and reuse.

Recycling and reuse of waste materials: Waste materials and unqualified castings in the brass casting process can be returned to the furnace for remelting and reuse, reducing the waste of raw materials.

Environmentally friendly packaging materials: In terms of product packaging, many companies use degradable or recyclable environmentally friendly packaging materials to avoid using too much plastic packaging. By reducing the use of plastics, environmental pollution is further reduced.

6. Green certification and compliance management
In order to further improve the level of environmental protection, many brass lock core manufacturers have obtained environmental management system certifications such as ISO 14001. These certifications require companies to formulate and implement strict environmental protection measures, conduct regular environmental impact assessments and improvements, and ensure that various production activities comply with environmental regulations and industry standards.
